"You can disagree about the propriety of the auto industry bailout. You can disagree about free trade. You can disagree about a lot of things. But when you say gay people are pedophiles and rapists, that is not a simple disagreement: it is a stupid, hateful position that, say, a President-elect should stay miles away from.
Barack Obama's choice of Rick Warren to give the invocation at his inauguration is dreadful. His explanation is, if possible, even worse. He shrinks Warren's grotesque comparisons down to a "disagreement," as if we were talking about ethanol subsidies. But we are not. In fact, we are not even talking about marriage rights, we are talking about demonizing an entire group of Americans for the purpose of religious indoctrination, political gain and financial profit. Or doing so out of sheer hatred and idiocy. Or both."

Mr. Obama,
By picking the rabidly homophobic preacher and Proposition 8 supporter, Rick Warren to give your inaugural invocation you have lost me. You have lost me as a supporter for the next 4 years. You have lost me as a supporter of your plan to “Change America”. And sadly, you made me lose any of the hope I had that you would be different from the rest of the homophobic bigots that seem so intent on destroying this country we live in. My country! As a gay man, I view your choice as a slap in the face not only to me but to all my other Gay brothers and sisters who supported you. If you are so intent on opening the ‘tent’ then why are you not inviting any Aryan nation members to speak? Any KKK members?
If you cannot understand how this man is no different in our eyes than a KKK member would be, then you don't deserve the support of the millions of Gay Americans who supported you.
I had hope that you would not do this, but after your refusal to support Gay marriage I should have known better.
I know I am just one person and my supporting you isn't going to affect your Presidency one way or another but in the end, I know I am not alone. As Gay Americans, we will not let you throw us under the bus to placate the ‘Christian right’. The same group that has unleashed 30 years of hatred, fear and bigotry in this Country. The same group that has torn us apart as Americans.
You. Have. Lost. Me.
Sincerely,
*** ******
